ARROW Selects

ARROW Selects

Welcome to the ARROW Selects, focusing on titles recommended by the ARROW staff. This month we have Adrian, Matt and Manu who have added their favourite films and more info about them below!

Adrian's Picks:
XX Beautiful Hunter: Well fellas, turns out a little bit of cunnilingus goes a long way in convincing a sexy female assassin that shooting you in the head is a bad idea.

The Guard from Underground: If you had told me David Lynch directed a slasher written by Mark Frost as a cooldown film after Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me… and it was all in Japanese… and it was this film, yeah, sure, I could believe it.

Gamera the Brave: A worthy requel to Gamera that takes the “Gamera is a friend to all children" concept and cranks it up to eleven. Baby Gamera is cute, adult Gamera is cute too. Be ready to shed a tear at the end when the kids relay race through an actual war zone to help their giant turtle friend violently kill a man-eating mutated reptile.

Why did I choose these films? Latex, anti-corporate messaging and turtles.

What's my job? Schmoozing and pressing the record button.

Matt's Picks:
Hellraiser: Don’t solve the puzzle box, it’s deadly! When Frank comes back to life through a small drop of blood, he requires more humans to feast on, to keep him alive. But the Cenobites want Frank, and they’ll do everything they can to tear him apart.

Dinner in America: When two very different people, accidentally meet. They realise they may have a little more in common than they first expected. Join Simon and Patty for one hell of a ride.

Heart of Dragon: Sit back, get the popcorn out and enjoy! Get ready for some awesome stunts, fight scenes and car chases, starring Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung.

Why did I choose these films? A mix of horror, fun and Hong Kong action!

What's my job? Coordinating all our digital titles, so they are ready to launch for you all!

Manu's Picks:
Hounds of Love - A wonderfully acted subversion of the kidnapping thriller that turns its lens on the perpetrators, with fascinating and deeply unsettling results.

Cheap Thrills - How low would you stoop for some cash? This hidden gem of indie filmmaking is one hell of a night out!

Ali: Fear Eats the Soul - A painfully tender love story, told through some of the most extraordinary blocking you’ll ever see.

Why did I choose these films? A couple of small indies about fucked up people, plus a beautiful portrait of forbidden love in postwar West Germany. Something for everyone!

What’s my job? I work in Quality Control, making sure every film looks and sounds as good as possible before it hits your shelves.
