Worried Kurt Wallander asks his doctor about his memory losses. Meanwhile his granddaughter Bea is out on a field trip with her daycare centre. They pass by a construction site where Bea spots a human head buried in the ground. The head is separated from the body. The body is the one of a young prostitute from Moldavia. The suspicions point to Tigran Perski a Russian model scout. Wallander wants to know more about the girl and travels to Moldavia to meet her twin sister and father. There he finds out that they received a huge sum of money. Why? And from whom? The case takes Wallander into depression sorrow and adoption questions. He also receives the results from his doctor with a verdict that brings out his darker side.
