One piece of bad luck rarely comes alone, as Birgitte must acknowledge when Prime Minister Lars Hesselboe, to everyone's surprise, calls an election with fifteen months still to go in his government’s term of office. For the New Democrats, this means that they must suddenly spring into action. In addition to the problems that have arisen in connection with the unexpected election campaign, Birgitte is also struggling with the after-effects of the surgery she is receiving for precancerous breast lesions. She is having radiotherapy almost every day, which causes her pain and extreme fatigue. All of this results in absences from work, to the great frustration of her colleagues and Katrine, who is baffled by Birgitte’s new behaviour.
