Celluloid Screams Selects
Celebrating 16 years of showcasing the best new and classic horror cinema on the big screen, Celluloid Screams Horror Film Festival is an annual event that takes place in Sheffield, United Kingdom. Recently ranked by Dread Central as one of the best horror festivals in the world, Celluloid Screams 2024 (Presented by Arrow Video) takes place between 24-27 October at Showroom Cinema in Sheffield.
The festival is an annual celebration of the best new horror cinema, a packed programme of short films from the fearmakers of the future and a handful of classic horror screenings that remind us of why we fell in love with the genre in the first place. Join usssss!

The Endless
Moorhead and Benson’s mind-bending opus was the opening gala screening at Celluloid Screams 2017, further cementing our relationship with the filmmaking duo that began with the UK Premiere of Resolution in 2012. If you haven’t seen them, seek out every one of their films immediately.

Produced by Dario Argento and directed by Lamberto Bava, Demons is full-throttle 80s Euro horror excess at its finest. Screened in glorious 35mm at our 35mm Mystery Marathon in summer 2023.

Keoma
A one-of-a-kind psychedelic European western with a startling soundtrack that effectively narrates the action, Keoma is just about horror-adjacent enough to make the list.
The Stylist
Jill Gevargizian’s jaw-dropping debut was an official selection at our 2020 edition, one of the only UK horror festivals to run in-person that year. Mind those scissors!
[REC]
Before the advent of the first Celluloid Screams horror festival, we screened a six-week introductory season of horror movies at the Showroom Cinema. [REC] was one of them, and it still reigns as one of the best horror films of the last twenty years.

Deep Red
One of Dario Argento’s 70s masterpieces, our 2015 screening was accompanied by an impressive live score from Claudio Simonetti’s Goblin, closing out that year’s festival in fine style.

The Last Matinee
Our closing film from 2020, this stylish offering from Uruguay centres its action on a Montevideo cinema, where members of the audience are terrorized by a murderer.

Zombie Flesh Eaters
A highlight of our first edition in 2009, Fulci’s seminal gut muncher is a veritable greatest hits package of zombie cinema. Throat ripping? Check! Ocular trauma? Of course!
