Continuing directly from Vol. I’s cliffhanger, Nymphomaniac: Vol. II sees Gainsbourg’s Joe ostensibly now on a quest to get her orgasm back and describing her further sexual shenanigans to her saviour cum therapist cum priest Stellan Skarsgård as she gets older and gains responsibility and even a protege in the form of Mia Goth’s ‘P’.

A different, darker, bleaker beast, Vol. II finds Joe still experimenting and broadening her sexual horizons - sometimes painfully with Jamie Bell’s fastidious dom - while also managing to meditate on various, sometimes uncomfortable, topics with Seligman.

Vol. II also sees von Trier gleefully poking at his own films' fourth wall, Charlotte Gainsbourg somehow summoning up an even more fearless performance and genre film legend Udo Kier even getting involved in an unforgettable cutlery-based set piece. This version is the Director's Cut.
