The body of a woman, Annika Svensson, is found buried in a desolate field by two boy scouts. As the investigation quickly progresses - and more bodies are discovered - it becomes obvious that Irene and her colleagues are facing a serial killer, who seems to target middle-aged women. Fortunately for the Violent Crimes Unit, they can count on Elin’s help, a forensic crime scene investigator and newest member of the team. On the family front, Irene’s daughter, Katarina, is getting ready to move out from the family home which has caused some tension.
